School Committee approves transparency protocol, defers superintendent goals
Northampton School Committee · Meeting of August 8, 2026
Northampton School Committee approves agenda protocol, establishes governance priorities during full-day retreat. Superintendent Annie Azarloza facilitated a full-day governance session on August 8 at which the Committee approved a three-step Board Member Requests protocol to increase transparency in agenda-setting, referred related policies to the Rules and Policy Subcommittee, and identified four governance priorities on a voice vote with no objections or abstentions. The priorities are: establishing a collective mission centered on children and families, optimizing meeting efficiency, ensuring clear communication about Committee operations, and maintaining a two-way information flow to support decision-making.
The Committee deferred action on Superintendent Azarloza's three goals pending Superintendent Evaluation Subcommittee review and agreed to revisit two behavioral commitments at the next retreat.
