Northampton Public Schools will fund unbudgeted staffing through draws on the special education stabilization fund. The Budget and Property Subcommittee learned the district will allocate approximately $114,000 to fund new positions, including a science teacher at JFK Middle School. Superintendent Annie Azarloza characterized the science position as a safety decision, required to meet National Science Safety Guidance's recommendation of a maximum 24 students in laboratory activities.
Federal grant allocations for FY27 are tracking above the prior year, with Title I grants approximately $2,000 above FY26 and IDEA grants approximately $17,000 above. The district's out-of-school program NEST reported a fund balance of $115,252.
