School Budget Subcommittee Discusses FY27 Preliminary Budget
Northampton School Committee Budget & Property Subcommittee · Meeting of March 20, 2026
NORTHAMPTON — The Northampton School Committee Budget and Property Subcommittee examined the fiscal year 2027 preliminary budget on March 20. Superintendent Bonner cautioned that adopting the city target budget would require approximately $563,000 in reductions, while member Michael Stein, the subcommittee chair, described school choice enrollment as a fiscal cliff threatening the district. Mr.
Stein noted that full prior-year funding would have limited this year's budget increase to only 8 percent, but delayed funding extends deficits further into future years. The subcommittee reviewed potential reduction areas including technology spending and hall monitor staffing, with the fiscal cliff from school choice identified as the district's core challenge.
