Northampton School Committee · Meeting of July 29, 2026

NORTHAMPTON — Committee approves director role requiring principal experience. The Northampton School Committee voted 7-1-1 on July 29 to approve a redesigned Director of Teaching and Learning position, replacing the Director of Curriculum and Instruction role. The new position requires approximately three years of prior principal experience.

Superintendent Annie Azarloza proposed the change to reflect the broader scope of the role, encompassing instruction, assessment, professional learning, and continuous improvement. Member Renika Montgomery-Tamakloe voted no; Member Anat Weisenfreund abstained. The Committee also unanimously approved renaming the after-school program to NEST (Northampton Extended School Time), developed through collaboration with students, teachers, and site coordinators.
