Forestry board cuts to one meeting a month
Other Committee · Meeting of September 16, 2026
Northampton's Urban Forestry Commission votes 7-0 to cut regular meetings from twice to once a month. Tree Warden Paris Litti, newly promoted to Director of Public Works, said the added duties leave him able to attend "only one meeting a month," prompting the shift to first Wednesdays only. Members Susan Loftus, Molly Hale, Jennifer Werner, David Lukens, Richard Parrish and Kent Johnson also approved August's minutes unanimously.
Parrish reported a new volunteer summer maintenance program logged 172 hours, mulching about 190 young trees and removing roughly 370 outgrown tree guards. Litti said a resistograph tree-decay testing device, whose inventor will keynote an October arborists' conference in Warwick, Rhode Island, costs about $11,500. "You've elevated the tree culture in Northampton dramatically," Litti told Parrish.
