Northampton Eyes Main Street Redesign at Public Meeting

Northampton residents will get a formal look at ideas for reshaping Main Street at a public meeting set for Wednesday evening, the most concrete civic item on the city's calendar this week as a full slate of municipal boards also convene and the high school football team gears up for a Thursday night game.

The city's Picture Main Street initiative goes before the public Wednesday, Sept. 23, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., giving residents a chance to weigh in on plans for the downtown corridor.

A busy stretch of municipal business follows Sept. 21 through 24: the Northampton Housing Authority meets Sept. 21 at 5:30 p.m., the Agricultural Commission meets Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. at Smith Vocational High School, and the Community Resources Committee meets Sept. 22 at 5:30 p.m. Residents can also attend a free Lunch and Learn on tenants' rights with the state Attorney General's office at the Senior Center on Sept. 22 at noon.

Sept. 24 brings a cluster of votes and hearings: the Human Rights Commission at 5 p.m., the Conservation Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals both at 5:30 p.m., the City Council Committee on Legislative Matters at 6 p.m., and the Planning Board at 7 p.m., which will hold a joint session with the Legislative Matters committee afterward. The Ryan Road School Council also meets Sept. 24 at 5 p.m.
