Northampton Housing Authority approves 2027 state plan, seals new director's contract. The board unanimously adopted its fiscal year 2027 state annual plan and voted 4-0-1 to approve Acting Executive Director Sharon's contract, sending it to the state's Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities for final sign-off. Sharon told commissioners the authority's roughly 627 units are steady near 44 vacancies, but that of 100 recent waitlist applicants pulled through the state's CHAMP system, only six qualified for an apartment.
The authority is bringing on the Worcester Housing Authority, with a July 31 kickoff meeting, to help speed turnover. Commissioner Ben called the authority's reserves "a really good financial position" worth using for added staffing. A Cahill Street parking project is underway, adding five spaces over about 40 days.
Commissioner Joelle Tarbutton-Springfield disclosed a stage three endometrial cancer diagnosis and said she is weighing stepping down from the board at the end of August after more than six years of service.
