Northampton Planning Board approves Henshaw Avenue carriage house conversion unanimously

NORTHAMPTON — February 26, 2026 — Northampton Planning Board unanimously approves carriage house conversion, delays Glendale Road hearing a second time. The board voted without dissent at its February 26 meeting to approve a site plan converting a historic carriage house with non-conforming setbacks into a residence at 81 Henshaw Avenue, and separately endorsed an Approval Not Required plan splitting the St. Mary's Church parcel at 3 Elm Street into three lots ahead of a phased redevelopment. A special permit hearing for a Sovereign Builders project on Glendale Road in Florence was continued to March 12 at 7 p.m. — again without opening — because the applicant requested a further delay and several board members were absent, leaving quorum uncertain. Resident Mimi Rogers of 97 Glendale Road told the board during public comment that she had "never got a letter or anything" notifying her of the project, and City Councillor Stratton closed the meeting by warning that a Zoom audio failure at the session's start "raises a number of open meeting law issues that may need some walking into."
