Zoning Board · Meeting of July 23, 2026
Northampton Zoning Board approves two special permits in unanimous 3-0 votes. Chair Elizabeth Silver, Maureen Scanlon and Sherry Taylor approved Eric Winkler's amendment to convert a planned dwelling above his 105 Pine Street garage into an accessory carriage barn, capping height at 23 feet three and seven-eighths inches. In a second hearing, the board approved Jared Starr and Stephanie Cuenoud's plan to demolish and rebuild their 32 Clark Avenue house, moving a garage that currently sits just 1.9 feet from a neighboring building, which Starr called a "significant fire concern," to the front of the property and cutting paved driveway area from about 1,400 square feet to roughly 400.
The Northampton Historical Commission had voted 6-0 on June 8 to allow the demolition. Both applicants told the board they had broad neighborhood support and no objections from city departments.
