Council Renews Task Force Pact, Funds DCC Hours
Northampton City Council funded expanded mental-health response hours and renewed an open-ended anti-crime task force contract.
Select Board · Meeting of July 15, 2026
Northampton City Council funded expanded mental-health response hours and renewed an open-ended anti-crime task force contract. The council voted 8-0 to approve $39,000 in fiscal 2026 transfers covering overtime for the Department of Community Care's new Saturday and holiday hours, which Health Commissioner O'Leary said were "data-driven" based on dispatch patterns and community feedback. Councilors also voted 7-0, with Council President Rachel Mayuri recused, to renew inter-municipal agreements including a standing Northwestern District Attorney's Anti-Crime Task Force contract with "no end date," after Councilor Stratton and Councilor Robbins said plainclothes, masked task force officers were mistaken for federal immigration agents during a spring incident at State and Main streets.
Ten residents urged the council to keep defending its 2025 Gaza divestment resolution against a pending lawsuit. Councilors also referred a proposed retiree pension COLA increase from $13,000 to $16,000 to the August 20 consent agenda.
