NORTHAMPTON — The Northampton City Services Committee heard Housing Authority Commissioner Jim Nash explain a May 20 open meeting law near-miss and scheduled a special session to save a stalled appointment. Nash, reading a statement prepared with Housing Authority Attorney Thomas O'Connor and Chair Patty Healy, said a quorum of the authority's executive director search committee inadvertently gathered with residents at Salvo House, and that Gazette reporter Anthony Camilleri was asked to leave the session. "I'm not aware of an actual complaint being filed by the Gazette or anybody else," Nash told councilors.
The committee voted 4-0 to approve minutes and 4-0 to approve six board reappointments, including Suzanne Smith to the Board of Health and Richard Meyer to the Conservation Commission. Members also set a 6 p.m. special meeting for August 20 to interview Council on Aging nominee Mary Biddle ahead of a roughly September 3 statutory deadline, after her application went missing from the referral packet.
