Northampton's Community Resources Committee heard a panel urge the city to limit police cooperation that feeds immigration enforcement.
Other Committee · Meeting of July 20, 2026
Northampton's Community Resources Committee heard a panel urge the city to limit police cooperation that feeds immigration enforcement. Center for New Americans Executive Director Lori Millman, Luce representative Stan Shapiro, Immigrant Solidarity Collective members Jenny Bender and Soledad, and Western Mass Asylum Support Network coordinator Elliot Oberholzer described local deportations tied to minor traffic stops and a 2022-2027 Motorola Solutions police-camera contract they say gives ICE data access. Oberholzer said "the answer is that Northampton police are feeding people to the deportation machine." Councilors Gwen Navad, Aileen Davis and Lori Loiselle voted 4-0, along with Councilor Garrett Perry, to approve June 16 minutes and later to adjourn, but took no policy vote.
Advocates said a list of asks given to the mayor roughly a year ago remains unfulfilled, and pressed councilors for a written next-steps packet.
