NORTHAMPTON — The Transportation and Parking Commission voted 6-0 to make permanent the no-parking zones on Bancroft Road tested since May. Director of Public Works Donna Lascalia, chairing her final meeting before leaving the city, said the restrictions followed a 2025 resident complaint and a May site visit with Chief of Police John Cartledge and Northampton Fire Rescue Chief Peliss after emergency vehicles could not pass through the narrow, 22-foot-wide street. City Councilor Deb Clemmer, who canvassed residents repeatedly, said the configuration "definitely feels a lot safer being up there." Commission member Randy Saylor asked whether removing parked cars might let vehicles "go a little bit faster on that road safely," a concern Clemmer said she had not yet heard from residents.

The commission also voted 6-0 to postpone approval of its June 16, 2026 minutes to the next meeting.
