Zoning board unanimously approves three residential setback applications

Zoning Board of Appeals · Meeting of February 26, 2026

Northampton Zoning Board of Appeals unanimously approves three residential setback applications. The board voted 3-0 at each of three hearings to approve findings permits for nonconforming side-setback continuations at 29 Columbus Ave and 488 Elm St, as well as a special permit for Valley Home Improvement's rear addition at 29 Fort St. For 488 Elm St, applicant Denise Ippolito's 280-square-foot addition proposes an eight-foot setback compared to the existing six-foot nonconformity.

The Fort St project will encroach an additional 0.2 feet into the nonconforming setback; the board determined the two-inch encroachment is insubstantial.
