Subcommittee advances restraint and seclusion policy update

Northampton School Committee Rules & Policy Subcommittee · Meeting of April 15, 2026

Northampton School Committee subcommittee advances mandatory restraint policy update. The Rules & Policy Subcommittee voted 3-0 on April 15 to advance revisions to the Restraint and Seclusion Policy to the Special Education Parent Advisory Committee for feedback, with further review scheduled for May 20. The state-mandated update must be implemented by August 17 following recent Department of Elementary and Secondary Education action.

Student Services Director Holloway outlined staff training involving over 130 district employees, including a 12-hour CPI certification and train-the-trainer sessions led by long-time district staff. The subcommittee deferred action on a revised cell phone policy pending release of a state model policy and input from school principals.
