School Committee approves calendar shift, program expansion, and special education data review
Northampton School Committee · Meeting of February 12, 2026
Northampton School Committee approves revised calendar and accepts $290,317 midyear appropriation. The Committee voted unanimously to adopt the 2026-2027 calendar, which begins August 26 with kindergarteners starting August 31 and ends June 11, after NASE requested an earlier start date. In a 6-2 vote, members tabled the superintendent's out-of-school-time program and directed it back to subcommittees before March 12.
The Committee also directed Director of Student Services Matt Holloway to provide aggregated data on missed IEP services to SEPAC members. Business Administrator Jones announced her mid-August retirement. The Committee referred a proposed bell-to-bell cell phone policy to the Rules and Policy Subcommittee after objections that the draft lacked student input and fiscal analysis.
