School Committee approves $56.3 million FY27 operating budget

Northampton schools approve $56.3 million budget for fiscal year 2027, seek supplemental funding. The School Committee voted 5-1 to approve the FY27 operating budget of $56,317,261, which includes a $50,372,969 city appropriation, a $166,666 donation from Smith College, and $235,310 from special education stabilization funds. Superintendent Bonner reported that special education lines were overspent.
Business Administrator Jones said expenditures reached 68 percent of the fiscal 2026 budget as of March. The Committee unanimously approved amended interview questions for superintendent candidates and advanced proposed policy revisions for field trips and health education.
