Other Committee · Meeting of September 21, 2026
Northampton Housing Authority voted to bring in Worcester Housing Authority crews to clear a 43-unit vacancy backlog. Commissioners unanimously approved the memorandum of understanding; Worcester's Steve Alvarez said his team will do "the heavy lifting" on turnovers while Northampton's maintenance staff, which Acting Executive Director Sharon called "short staffed," handles new vacancies going forward. The board also approved a $35,670 elevator maintenance contract, a $9,450 fall cleanup bid with Shea Landscaping, and a $23,520 Cahill Apartments ADA ramp change order, all unanimously.
Commissioner Ben Wood was appointed to the authority's seat on the Community Preservation Committee. In executive session, the board gave Attorney Tom O'Connor open authority to negotiate a settlement in a non-payment eviction case where the tenant's lawyer is seeking $30,000 over unaddressed mold, leaky ceilings and a mice infestation.
