Finance Committee Deadlocks on School Capital Spending

City Council Committee on Finance · Meeting of March 25, 2026

NORTHAMPTON — Finance Committee deadlocks on $2.2 million order, forwards without recommendation. The committee split 2:2 on recommendations for Order 26.022 after disputes over school capital items included within it. School Committee member Amy Martyn requested the school items be removed for separate review, citing the committee's oversight authority.

Finance Director Charlene Nardi said unapproved funds would remain in Free Cash without affecting school operations. The committee unanimously approved six other capital orders totaling $6.8 million for infrastructure and equipment.
