Fiscal Assessment Community Task Force · Meeting of October 7, 2026
NORTHAMPTON — The Fiscal Assessment Community Task Force reviewed community feedback from public forums and discussed how to address a projected $3.4 million structural deficit in Northampton's fiscal year 2028 budget. Approximately 40 residents attended forums on September 19 and September 30, expressing concerns about unmet basic needs, lack of trust in government, and the need for transparency. Task force Chair Robert Boulrice led discussion of feedback themes, while Mayor Sciarra clarified the task force's mission to review the city's general fund budget, assess revenue sources, and recommend approaches to the fiscal gap.
The mayor emphasized that one-time solutions using reserves would not resolve a recurring revenue problem and noted that task force findings are expected in early December to inform fiscal year 2028 budget planning, with any potential property tax override vote occurring in March.
