Northampton School Committee Curriculum Subcommittee · Meeting of August 3, 2026
Northampton's Curriculum Subcommittee meets with two of three members present. The subcommittee approved April 14 minutes (2-0, 1 absent) and heard presentations on science of reading and academic trends. ELA Instructional Coach Rachel Nicholas reported expansion of universal literacy screening to grades K-5, adoption of UFLI Foundations for grades K-2, and approximately 90 percent of K-3 teachers trained in science of reading approaches.
Superintendent Annie Azarloza presented achievement trends showing stable grades 3-8 performance with 2025 ELA rebound despite science decline, while grade 10 significantly exceeds grades 3-8 across all subjects. Opportunity gaps between disabled and non-disabled students, and between white and Latinx students, remain wider than state average.
