Council Refers $2.1 Million Free Cash to Committee

Northampton City Council defers $2.1M Free Cash allocation to Finance Committee. The council referred orders totaling $2.1 million in Free Cash and approximately $2 million in enterprise retained earnings for water, sewer and stormwater infrastructure to Finance Committee for further review, deferring budget decisions ahead of the FY26 budget season. The council moved $251,025 for the NPS Special Education Stabilization Fund and student transportation reimbursements to its consent agenda; Councilor Christopher Stratton opposed the Special Education allocation in an 8-1 vote.

The council also approved amendments to the 2026-2027 meeting schedule by 8-1, canceling the February 19 meeting and moving July 9 to July 15.
