Council approves stable water and sewer rates for FY2027

Northampton City Council votes to hold water and sewer rates steady for FY2027. DPW Director LaScaleia presented budgets for both enterprises, which remain level-funded at approximately $6.9 million (water) and $6.2 million (sewer) since FY2021. The Council voted unanimously on the rate freeze despite mounting infrastructure needs and uncertainty surrounding major customer Coca-Cola, which delayed its planned departure.
Concurrently, the city advanced a $132.4 million capital improvement program for FY2027-2031, with multiple funding orders referred to the Finance Committee for further consideration, including $1.8 million for City Hall roof replacement, $1.5 million for road resurfacing, and $1 million in sidewalk improvements.
