Coolidge Standing Committee approves $1,000 quilt, endorses mission revision
Coolidge Standing Committee · Meeting of February 2, 2026
NORTHAMPTON — Coolidge Standing Committee approves $1,000 quilt, endorses mission revision. The committee voted 8-1 to recommend revisions to its mission and priorities to the trustees, with committee member Jay Fleitman objecting that word changes would reduce focus on Coolidge's presidency. In a separate 8-0-1 vote, the committee approved up to $1,000 for the Valley Quilt Guild to construct a replica of a childhood quilt for inclusion in a new exhibit designed by consultant Mike Hanke.
Committee member Jo Ellen Mackenzie successfully urged elimination of travel expenses from the Guild's original $1,400 proposal; Julie Bartlett Nelson, Head of the Calvin Coolidge Presidential Library and Museum, will coordinate with Hanke on final sizing.
