NORTHAMPTON — The Northampton Urban Forestry Commission reviewed spring tree planting results and volunteer maintenance efforts. Commission members reported 24 trees planted at JFK in spring 2026 with Mayor and City Council participation. The commission is considering three possible Public Shade Tree hearings: one at 1005 Park Hill Road for a proposed two-family dwelling, one at 330 Elm Street for a tree removal request, and one for a five-townhouse project at the end of Maple Avenue that will impact five public shade trees.
The commission discussed coordination of 20 volunteers across 16 work zones for tree maintenance, with Commission members Kent Johnson and Molly Hale agreeing to compile volunteer-identified discrepancies into a tracking spreadsheet. The commission is awaiting a proposal from Davey Resource Group for professional tree care services.
