NORTHAMPTON — The Transportation and Parking Commission unanimously recommended a parking ordinance for Bancroft Road, formalizing temporary no parking zones on the steep, narrow street that prevent emergency vehicles from passing when both sides are occupied. DPW Director Donna LaScaleia said the city installed temporary signs after determining in May that fire apparatus could not navigate the roadway with parked cars on both sides; the signs were repositioned in June to address resident concerns about driveway access. Police Chief John Cartledge confirmed that navigation had improved since the restrictions were installed.
LaScaleia announced this was her final public meeting as DPW Director.
