Conservation · Meeting of August 20, 2026
Northampton's Conservation Commission backed a grant letter for a new Fitzgerald Lake dock and closed out a sewer project's wetlands file. The commission voted 4-0, with one abstention from new member Benjamin Hood, to support the Broad Brook Coalition's Community Preservation Act application for a 144-foot dock, an 8-by-16-foot wharf and 240 feet of trail upgrades at Fitzgerald Lake's Fishing Place. Co-president Rich Baker said the lake is "man-made and highly trophic," driving the siltation that has made the existing dock hard to use.
The board also voted 4-0 to issue a certificate of compliance for the Riverside Drive Sewer Project, DEP File 246-0794, after Assistant Director Sarah LaValley confirmed relocated streamside plantings were "definitely flourishing." Staff separately reported Maines Field's snow storage remains compliant with its DPW order of conditions.
