City Council · Meeting of August 20, 2026

NORTHAMPTON — Kennedy School roof design moves forward with city funding. The City Council unanimously approved allocating $75,250 from school projects and capital reserves for the JFK roof design phase, which must be completed before the state can evaluate the project for cost-sharing under the Massachusetts School Building Authority Accelerated Repair Program, typically covering 45 to 55 percent of approved costs. Council also unanimously approved supplemental appropriation for the school budget, voted 8 to 1 to authorize a five-year utility assessment contract, and voted 8 to 1 to award a three-year auditing services contract to Scanlon & Associates.

In separate action, Council unanimously referred state-mandated zoning amendments that expand flexibility for nonconforming properties and extend abandonment timelines from two to four years.
