Board of Health · Meeting of April 16, 2026

Northampton Board of Health unanimously adopts Nicotine Free Generation tobacco regulation. The board approved a regulation restricting tobacco and nicotine product sales to individuals born on or after July 1, 2005 after consulting other municipalities and reviewing two years of research. Board members Janet Grant, Dr.

Cynthia Suopis, and Dr. Joanne Levin unanimously backed the policy, citing evidence from other communities that adopted it without harming local businesses. The health department also presented an opioid settlement fund mini-grant program distributing approximately 120,000 dollars in FY2026 for community-led prevention, harm reduction, treatment, and recovery initiatives, with applications due May 15, 2026. ===BRIEF===
