Northampton registrars address 10,000 inactive voter registrations. City Clerk Pamela Powers reported that approximately 7,000 residents had not completed their annual street listing, resulting in 10,000 total inactive registrations out of 21,000 to 23,000 total registered voters. The state will send vote-by-mail application postcards to about 10,000 voters in July to automatically reactivate registrations.
The board discussed approximately 10 state-wide initiative petitions expected to be launched on topics including public records access, rent control, and marijuana regulation. Registrar Mary Lou Stuart was absent; Registrar Joseph Tarantino attended but had technical difficulties. No votes were taken.
