Bicycle Subcommittee reviews street projects, delays e-bike ordinance

Bicycle and Pedestrian Subcommittee · Meeting of May 27, 2026

NORTHAMPTON — Bicycle Subcommittee reviews multiple street projects, delays e-bike ordinance pending state action. The subcommittee heard updates from Carolyn Misch of the Office of Planning and Sustainability and Donna LaScaleia of the Department of Public Works on multiple street projects, including an Elm Street bike path designed with scored concrete sections and removable posts for 5-foot lanes. Other projects in progress include pavement restoration on South and Main streets, sidewalk work on Bedford Terrace with traffic calming measures on State Street, and city-wide lane re-striping.

The subcommittee decided to postpone local e-bike ordinance changes until the state completes mobility device legislation.
