Bicycle Subcommittee backs MassTrails grant for trail connector design

Bicycle and Pedestrian Subcommittee · Meeting of January 28, 2026

Northampton bicycle subcommittee supports trail connector grant application. Chair Carolyn Misch of the Office of Planning & Sustainability requested the committee's support for a MassTrails grant to design a 133-foot connector between downtown and a state trail near View Avenue and Northern Avenue. Committee member James Lowenthal spoke in favor, while Ward 6 Councilor Chris Stratton voiced concerns about private-to-public trail connections before Misch noted the connector would begin from public right-of-way with property-owner support.

Public comment also addressed snow obstructing curb cuts at municipal buildings and bus stops. The subcommittee approved prior meeting minutes by roll call vote.
